Alienware’s 2024 laptop lineup gets the Intel Core Ultra & 14th Gen HX upgrade in m18 R2, m16 R2 and x16 R2 gaming models.
Alienware x16 R2, m16 R2, m18 R2 Gaming Laptops Feature Intel Core Ultra & 14th Gen HX CPUs & NVIDIA RTX 40 GPUs
With the launch of Intel’s Core Ultra Series 1 “Meteor Lake” CPUs, we were soon or less bound to see an Alienware laptop upgrade, and now, the company has both Core Ultra & 14th Gen HX CPU options available with its 2024 laptop lineup aimed at enthusiast and high-end gamers.
Starting at the top, we have the Alienware x16 R2 which combines Intel’s Core Ultra CPUs up to the 185H with a high-end RTX 40 GPU such as the RTX 4090 mobility with 16 GB memory. This laptop is equipped with a 16″ QHD+ (2560 x 1600) 240Hz display with NVIDIA G-Sync and Optimus support. It weighs 2.72 kg and comes with a more modern look. Other specifications include up to 32 GB of LPDDR5x-7467 memory, up to 4 TB of PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD, and 8 TB RAID 0 options (2 x 4 TB NVMe SSD). Connectivity includes WiFi6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and a range of USB Type-C ports including a USB4 option.
The toned-down version of this laptop is the m16 R2 which comes with up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H CPU, up to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 8 GB GPU, and up to 64 GB of DDR5-5600 memory. The display is a 16″ QHD+ (2560 x 1600) 240Hz panel with AMD Freesync and G-Sync compatible support. The battery is a 90Whr 6-cell design. Connectivity includes WIFI 6E/BT5.3 and WIFI 7/BT5.3 options. The laptop weighs 2.61kg with the maxed-out specs and comes with up to a 280W or a 240-watt GaN adapter.
Last but not least, we have the Alienware m18 R2 which utilizes the Intel 14th Gen HX CPUs with up to a Core i9-14900HX with 24 cores and 5.8 GHz clock speeds. This option comes with up to NVIDIA RTX 4090 GPU support too and can house up to 64 GB of DDR5-5200/5600 memory. Storage comes with up to 4 TB NVMe options and a secondary slot that can expand this to 8 TB. The battery is a 97 Whr design and comes with up to a 360W GaN adapter. This is a high-end option but all laptops will feature AlienFX Lighting support which is a great addition.
Pricing-wise, the Alienware m16 R2 will start at $1599 US, the Alienware x16 R2 will start at $2999 US while the m18 R2 will start at $1899 US.
