AMD AM5 Desktop APUs: Ryzen 8000G With Zen 4 Cores

So coming to the specifications, the AMD Ryzen 8000G APUs will be available in both PRO and Non-PRO flavors which share identical specifications. The flagship SKU is going to be the Ryzen 7 8700G which would offer 8 cores, 16 threads, a base clock of 4.2 GHz, and a boost clock of 5.1 GHz. There’s also the Ryzen 5 8600G APU which features 6 cores, 12 threads, a base clock of 4.35 GHz & a boost clock of 5.0 GHz. Both of these APUs will be based on the Phoenix 1 die and feature support for OC.

At $340 & $240 US preliminary prices, these look to be decent options for AM5 users as the Ryzen 7 7700 and Ryzen 5 7600 chips cost around the same price range. With these APUs, you are getting a very capable iGPU and we expect final prices to be closer to the $300 & $200 US range. For Ryzen 5 8500G, the price is listed at sub-$200 US levels at $190 which makes it a nice 6-core offering and we can also expect it closer to the $179 US figure which should put it against the Core i5-13400/14400.

The Phoenix 2 SKUs will include the Ryzen 5 8500G with 6 cores and 12 threads and the Ryzen 3 8300G with 4 cores and 8 threads. The 8500G operates at a base clock of 3.55 GHz and a boost clock of 5.0 GHz while the 8300G operates at a base clock of 3.45 GHz and a boost clock of 4.90 GHz. These two chips will be based on the Phoenix 2 die and feature PBO support minus the OC (manual) capabilities. The Phoenix 2 chips will also lack the higher-end RDNA 3 iGPUs such as the Radeon 780M and 760M. These would instead feature the Radeon 740M with just 4 compute units.

All of the standard Ryzen 8000G AM5 APUs will feature 65W/45W TDPs but each SKU will also come in 35W “GE” flavors which will feature slightly lower clock speeds but the same core configs. These APUs are expected to launch on the 31st of January.

AMD AM4 Desktop CPUs: Ryzen 5000X3D & Ryzen 5000

Coming to the specifications, we first have the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D which will be a slightly toned-down version of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D with the same 8 cores, 16 threads but lower clock speeds of 3.0 GHz (Base) and 4.1 GHz (Boost). This chip will offer 96 MB of L3 cache and retain the same 105-watt TDP. As for the Ryzen 5 5500X3D, you are getting 6 cores, 12 threads, a base clock of 3.0 GHz, boost clocks of up to 4.0 GHz, and the same 96 MB of L3 cache.

The Ryzen 7 5700X3d is expected to cost around $260 US which is slightly higher than the Ryzen 5 5600X3D which is offered exclusively by Microcenter though the 5500X3D can hit a price close to $199 US which should make it a phenomenal entry for AM4 gamers.

The clock speeds for both chips are going to be lower than the non-X3D parts since the first-gen 3D V-Cache chip had more restricted power and thermal limits than the 2nd Gen Ryzen 7000 CPUs which went on to offer some tuning capabilities. The 5700X3D is around 400 MHz lower clocked versus the 5800X3D while the 5500X3D is 300 MHz slower in terms of base and 400 MHz slower in terms of boost frequencies.

These new SKUs will ensure that mainstream audiences stick with AM4 for a good while and enjoy the gaming performance uplift offered by the addition of 3D V-Cache tech.

Besides the SKUs, it may look like AMD is planning to replace its existing Ryzen 5 5600G APU with the Ryzen 5 5600GT & the Ryzen 5 5500GT. The “GT” naming is new in the Ryzen APU family and the two chips will likely offer a slight upgrade. Pricing on these two chips is expected at $150 US & $130 US, respectively. There’s also the Ryzen 7 5700 which is expected to be an entry-level 8-core SKU and this is going to be a standard CPU affair based on the Zen 3 core architecture. This chip was recently confirmed by AMD and should retail for around $180 US.

All of these new chips are said to be released by the end of January so we might also see them being unveiled with the Ryzen 8000G AM5 Desktop APU family but hitting retail shelves in early February.
