Moore Thread’s PCIe 5.0 & 16 GB VRAM Equipped MTT S80 GPU Is Now Available For $164 US, The Cheapest 16 GB G6 Graphics Card
Chinese retailers are currently hosting the 11.11 Festival promotions which means that consumers will be able to find great deals on PC components such as CPUs, GPUs, motherboards, and many more. Amongst these deals are Moore Threads MTT S80 and MTT S70 GPUs which have reached their lowest price yet.
To give you a recap, Moore Threads is a Chinese GPU maker who made two consumer-grade cards for China’s domestic gaming segment. These include the MTT S80 and the MTT S70. Based on the in-house MUSA architecture, the MTT S80 is the world’s only fully PCIe 5.0 compatible graphics card with 16 GB GDDR6 memory whereas the Moore Threads MTT S70 is a cut-down version that retains PCIe 4.0 hardware and 7 GB GDDR6 memory. Despite some decent specifications on paper, both of the cards were underwhelming at launch due to poor optimization and software support which led to performance slower than the GeForce GTX 1050 while sipping in over 200 Watts of power.
However, Moore Threads has managed to optimize and deliver updates in regard to software and game support. It is still far from acceptable but the company is working on fine-tuning its graphics hardware while simultaneously working on the next generation. So the company is now working to resolve the overpriced nature of their graphics cards and offering a big price promo through China-based retailers during the 11.11 sale.
As of right now, the Moore Threads MTT S80 is listed for 1199 RMB at JD.com which is $164 US. This card has 16 GB of GDDR6 memory and the pricing makes it the most affordable graphics card with such a high amount of VRAM capacities. Meanwhile, the Moore Threads MTT S70 is listed for 899 RMB or $123 US which is also a good price for a 7 GB graphics card. Both cards are limited to the Chinese markets so gamers in these regions will be able to take advantage of such promotions & it looks like they do have a market for such cards.
For the US markets, the cheapest 16 GB graphics card would be the Intel Arc A770 from Sparkle which retails at Newegg for $289.99 US. You may also like checking out the most update to date review of the MTT S80 at MyDrivers to get an idea of gaming and Stable Diffusion AI performance of the card.
Chinese games and applications are specifically optimized within the Moore Threads MTT S80/S70 GPU driver suite and with $150 US and lower prices, these cards can become very popular options for budget gamers. With impending hardware bans on gaming products in China, it looks like Moore Threads may have a chance to further extend their market share within China though they need to work really hard on their software and driver suite if they want to win the trust of Chinese gamers.
